What can you expect at Chester Literature Festival?

As one of the biggest literary events of the year, the Chester Literature Festival is an annual event, hosted in late autumn. This year, the festival begins on the 6th of November, and will run until the 16th. Whether you’re an author, a creative, a reader, a comedy fan, a public speaker, a poet, or a performer, this event offers something for everyone. But what can you expect at Chester Literature Festival? And why should you consider visiting Chester for this series of events?

So, what can you expect at Chester Literature Festival?

There are a whole host of different events on offer at Chester Literature Festival, with the varied programme boasting everything from readings and book signings, to performances and workshops. This year, you can expect:

Poet and author talks and panels

Talks and interviews

Performances

Workshops

Poet and author talks and panels

One of the highlights of this festival each year, the author talks and panels give you a chance to hear from well-known authors and poets, listen to their discussions regarding their work and latest projects, and even ask questions. This year, Ava Glass, Greg Mosse, Jack Jewers, Mackenzie Crook, and George the Poet will be hosting events, readings or taking part in panels. You should also be sure not to miss the Chester Authors Party, which is a chance for budding authors to present some of their works in process, alongside local published authors.

Talks and interviews

As well as poet and author talks and interviews, you can also enjoy fascinating talks by a number of literary and history experts, as well as cultural icons like Penelope Tree who will be interviewed by Lady Jean Campbell. Kate Williams for example will be delivering an excellent talk on the secrets of royal women, while Lucy Worsley will be taking audiences on a deep dive of the life and world of Jane Austen, and her literary classics.

Performances and theatrical shows

Performances and shows are always central to the Chester Literature Festival, and this year will be no different. Renowned performance poet Luke Wright will be performing JOY, and stand ups Ruby Wax and Shaparak Khorsandi will also be hosting unmissable new shows. Simon Reeve will be performing his new tour ‘To The Ends Of The Earth’.

For theatrical shows, this year’s festival is offering a top notch selection including a musical concert by Pam Ayres and George Fenton, as well as a poignant theatre show by John Nichol titled “The Unknown Warrior.”

You can also enjoy an evening of stripped-back music and conversation with ABC lead Martin Fry.

Workshops

The Chester Literature Festival always delivers fantastic workshops for budding writers and anyone with an interest in improving their literary skills, or increasing their chances of traditional publishing. This year’s workshops will be hosted by HarperCollins authors Caroline Corcoran and Tabitha Lasley, both of whom have been nominated for awards, appeared on bestseller lists, and had their books translated into multiple languages.
